FIND ARTS @187--OUR NEW FINE ARTS CLUB!
We thank Alexis Pia Gerlach for her cello performance on Friday, June 6! Attendees had an opportunity to hear a gorgeous and very famous six part Suite for Cello Solo No. 1 by J.S. Bach followed by a movement exercise on stage (per Dalcroze Dalcroze approach to music education) so kids and parents alike could truly feel the music. It was a lovely event brought to us by a new club, Find Arts @187, a fine arts club which is the brain child of Ivana Jovic. We look forward to more events next year! Thank you!
FIRST EVER FILM FESTIVAL--A GRAND SUCCESS!
Thank you--all 57 of you--who submitted films to the first EVER PS/IS 187 Film Festival! It was a fabulous night, showcasing our kids' creative endeavors. We salute the prize winners, Delancey Trimble (1-205) for "My Snake Noga," Nialy Montoya and Adelyn Heagle (5-422) for "The Secret Life of Momo," and for Lilian Freeland (1-105) "The Little Red Hen." Again, we thank Dr. Evy Migadaki, DMD, of Evydent Dentistry, who generously donated all prizes for the event (a Mini iPad, an iPod Touch, and an iPod Nano). We also thank Michael Bridenstine, Creative Director of the Festival, and Isabelle Elton and family for donating all concessions so this and the other four Movie Nights we hosted this year made pure profit for the PTA! The Film Festival made just over $2000 for PTA after-school programming in fall 2014. Thank you Joey Delaney for laying our our lovely program! Thank you, Deb Canning for providing copies! Thank you, official 187 Movie Night popcorn poppers Mari Millery and Melissa Stein! Thank you countless Movie Night volunteers who sold concessions all year! Thank you Nancy, Carlos, and C.D. who cleaned up after all of our Movie Nights! Thank you Officer Morgan and Officer Harris for keeping us safe during all these events! Thank you, all!
DAY OF PLAY WAS SUPER PLAYFUL!: Thank you, YM & YWHA of Washington Heights and Inwood for supplying all the equipment and volunteers we needed for a super fun time in the schoolyard, and thank you, C.H.A.L.K for the grant that supplied all the food for the event! The rummage sale earned $320 for Wellness Committee! Thanks to all volunteers and to everyone else who came out for a day of play! Thank you Wellness Committee Chairs, Isabelle Elton and Ivana Jovic, and committee members Brenda Abramowitz and Caroline Muro for organizing. Thank you, Lori Bridenstine, Gardening Committee Chair, for helping folks plant all the pretty flowers! The campus looks just beautiful!
STAR WARS MOVIE NIGHT--THE FORCE WAS WITH US!: The April 23rd Movie night raised just under $2000. To Fall 2014 After-School all funds will go! Master Yoda would be proud! Thank you, dedicated volunteers! Thank you, Elton family for donating all concessions for all movie nights so these events are pure profit for the PTA!
FROZEN MOVIE NIGHT--A SMASHING SUCCESS: The March 28th Movie Night raised over $4000! This was a new record! Thank you dedicated volunteers and the Elton Family for their generosity in donating all concessions for the event!
IS MOVIE NIGHT: The January IS Movie Night raised just over $1600. IS Student Government is discussing how these monies will fund two IS after-school sports (one for girls, one for boys), and an additional high-interest IS after-school club this spring. Thank you, Movie Night Co-chairs, Isabelle Elton and Ivana Jovic for organizing, and thank you Movie Night volunteers for making it a fun event! More fun Movie Night time coming your way in March, April and May! Stay tuned!
TREE SALE: The 3rd Annual Tree Sale net profit was a record $16,121.82 (up from $13,512.94 in '12). Thank you to organizers Jay Douglas, Tom Canning, and Ross Posmentier and countless volunteers and donors who made the event a smashing success. Thank you, also to Michelle Del Guercio and the Skraptacular crew for running a fun eco-crafting event in the warmth of the cafeteria! As we voted at the November General Meeting, these monies will go toward Education Enhancement Grants for faculty.
SCHOOL-A-PALOOZA: SAP7's net profit was a record $13,030.21 (up from $8,351.79 in June '13). Thank you producers, Michael Bridenstine, Jay Douglas, Shannon Slatton, and Laura Tietjen, and the entire cast and crew of School-A-Palooza 7: Broadway Bound! Thank you, Melissa Stein and Food-a-Rama crew! Thank you countless volunteers and donors who made the event a success! Congrats to Kate Corona, winner of this year's Chili Throw Down! As we voted at the November General Meeting, these monies will go toward Education Enhancement Grants for faculty.
CHERRYDALE FUNDRAISER: Thank you very much to everyone who bought and/or sold Cherrydale for our school. You made a difference! The net profit for our Cherrydale Farms Fundraiser was $9400! That is $1400 more than last year!
LEARNING LEADERS NEEDED: If you'd like to commit an hour or more per week to tutor students in need of extra help, please consider becoming a Learning Leader. There is a training involved, and some training sessions are coming up. Indicate your interest in the Volunteer E-Questionnaire, and someone will contact you ASAP
NEW PS/IS 187 PARENTS HANDBOOK 2013-2014: Dear parents and guardians, this handbook was created to give you some basic information about how things work at PS/IS 187. Please take a little bit of time to familiarize yourself with it, especially parents who are new to the school. To read or download it, click HERE.

PTA DUES: We have raised nearly $12,000 in our PTA Dues Fundraiser. Last year we raised over $12,000 in PTA Dues. Can we top it this year? Can we get 100% participation? Yes, we can! No amount is too small! Any donation over $50 must be in form of check or money order made out to "PS/IS 187 PTA." For form click HERE You may submit your PTA Dues anytime this year--there is no deadline. Send it in with your child or bring it to the Main Office in an envelope marked "PTA DUES." Thank you!

ATTENTION IS PARENTS! Your GPR needs your contact information ASAP! Stay connected to what is happening in the school and in the PTA. You will receive occasional e-mails from your GPR when teachers want to communicate with you or if they need something (chaperones for field trips, supplies, or volunteers for Career Day). Fill out and return this form with your child.
